The Metacomet-Monadnock Trail
It was almost fifteen years ago when I first moved to the Springfield, MA area. One of the first things I like to do at a new place is pick up a topographical map of the town and look for trails. That was where I first heard of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. Over the years I have day-hiked sections of the trail but I always thought it would be fun to thru-hike her in one end-to-end trip. A 117-mile long trail was just the right size to fit into a week of hiking. For those of us in the middle of our careers and families something longer is hard to fit into our lives.
